Photography invites contemplation – seeing the world with fresh eyes, noticing that which ‘shimmers’ with beauty, meaning and poignancy. It involves being mindful, seeing that which is present and easily missed in the rush of modern life. It is a spiritual practice that opens the mind and the heart to the wonder of reality and that which is its source – whether understood as God, the evolutionary impulse or the ground of being. Contemplative photography, undertaken with a contemplative mind, can wake us up to awe, wonder, love and devotion as well as causing us to be curious in our questioning and willing in our activism.
