Poustinia Tulips

The Garden of reflection containing the Poustinia in Wells is a favorite place for my wife and I. The Poustinia, in this instance, is a contemporary circular structure designed by sculptor Stephen Broadbent. The idea of poustinia has its origins in the Russian Orthodox spiritual practice and was similar to a hermitage – a place for seeking God in solitude and silence. It is especially beautiful at this time of year as it is embraced by a ‘field’ of red tulips. We love to go into the poustinia for some spiritual solitude and even to sing or dance!
